How to Apply

In order to be eligible for ALA-Massachusetts, candidates must: 

  • Be 17 years of age or over; 
  • Be a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident; and
  • Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or a Paralegal Certificate.

ALA-Massachusetts is looking for applicants who have an interest in poverty law, a commitment to service, and strong communications skills. Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian-Creole, and other foreign language speakers preferred.

Selected candidates will have to pass a three-part criminal background check in order to serve.

Applications must include a resume and transcript. ALA-Massachusetts is competitive and cannot place every applicant. Applications are typically accepted on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.

The program will provide a hybrid of remote and in-person service. Selected candidates should expect to follow their partner site's policy with respect to hybrid service, and most members will commute some days each week to their partner site office. Therefore, applicants should expect to be physically present in Massachusetts or a neighboring state to serve.
